Since the approval of the designated supervision area for imported grain at the Xi'an Railway Port in 2015, the CRE train Xi'an hub has gradually become an efficient and secure food import channel. According to statistics, since the first batch of wheat from Kazakhstan arrived at Xi'an Port in 2017, by November 2024, Xi'an Customs has overseen the import of 177,200 tons of grain via the CRE train. The main types of grain include mung beans and wheat, with major source countries being Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. The CRE train, with its large capacity, fast speeds and minimal impact from natural environmental factors, has become a vital transportation method for food imports.
In recent years, with the deepening of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), Xi'an, as the starting point of the ancient Silk Road, has seen increasingly frequent grain trade with participating countries, supported by the CRE train. This has played a significant role in ensuring national food security.
